Vynomma “Nommie” Jo (Godwin) Brown, 82, went to meet her maker on Jan. 21 at her home in Mariposa, after a three-year battle with cancer.
Vynomma was born to Joseph Blackburn Godwin and Oltea Jewel Godwin on March 27, 1936 in Brownfield, Texas. She graduated from Hemet, Calif. in 1953.
She married Carl L. Brown, who joined the Navy in 1953 and lived and loved for 26 happy years then moved to Mariposa in 1979, where they lived, worked and loved each other for the next 39 years.
She leaves her legacy, a husband of 64 years; three children, Jeanie Jacobus, Johnnie Godwin and Wanda Rios; and lots of good friends. Her children remember her as a very friendly, loving person who never knew a stranger and was passionate about affecting the most positive change in people.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, George Godwin, Sue Lentz and Richard Godwin.
Vynomma (Nommie) worked for the Mariposa Health Department as an underground tank manager until she retired in 1994 to home teach her grandson in junior high.
A celebration of life is anticipated at a future date.
