Virginia “Penny” Wolfe

Virginia (Penny) Penelope Wolfe passed away peacefully at home on July 1, 2019 following a brief battle with cancer.

Penny is survived by her husband of 38 years Mel; daughter Terri (Rick) Landy; two sons Tony (Deanna) Spacke and Tim (Kathryn) Spacke; stepdaughters Connie ( Jim) Pearce, Cheryl (Chris) Jennings, Pam (Troy) Guenthart, Debbie (Brian) Peters; 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; and many close friends.

Born Oct. 10, 1939 to Dick and Jean Bates, and she had one sister, Dorothy; both her parents and sister have preceded her in death.

Penny was raised in Oakland, Calif., and grew up in the Mulford Gardens area of San Leandro, Calif., where she graduated from San Leandro High School. She moved to Mariposa with family in July 1973 where she took a job at the 49er Serv-U Drug Store for several years. When the drug store closed down, Penny obtained her real estate license and was a local realtor in town for many years until she retired.

Penny had a great love of animals and provided food and water to the many critters that frequented her home. She loved playing Bunko with her lady friends, gambling, good food (especially dessert), shopping and being with family and friends. Penny was a joy to be around and will be missed dearly.

Private services will be held at a later date.
