Virginia Parrott

Virginia Helen Harlow Parrott was born Nov. 11, 1921 and passed away on March 24, 2021 at the age of 99, after a brief illness.

She was born on a frosty night at the family cattle ranch in the old Usona District of Mariposa County to a loving Native American family. She was proud of her Southern Sierra Miwuk heritage and her indigenous family roots in the Yosemite/Mariposa area.

As an infant she traveled on her mother’s back by cradleboard. She attended Chowchilla Mountain School and Mariposa High School. She could ride, rope, gather cattle, handle a branding iron and a rifle.

Virginia, or Ginny as she was known, was always soft spoken, loving and kind. In her later years she could always be found in the front yard gardening and tending to her roses. As she takes her final journey she leaves behind a loving family who adored their “Aunt Ginny.” The last of our elders is now at peace in the creator’s arms.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Parrott; father and mother, Ed and Maude Harlow; sisters Patricia Harlow, Evelyn Harlow and Mary Rose; and brothers Eddie Harlow, Ernest Harlow and Eugene Harlow.

A graveside service will be held at Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at 2 p.m. Donations can be made to the American Heart Association, 7425 N. Palm Bluffs Ave., Fresno, CA 93711
