Valerie James

Valerie Lynn James, a beloved mother, daughter, sister, cousin and aunt, left us on Dec. 26, 2021, to start her journey into the spirit world.

She lost her battle to cancer which she had bravely faced for most of this past year.

Valerie was born and raised in Yosemite National Park and remained a lifelong resident. She was a dedicated National Park Service supervisor at the South Entrance in Wawona.

Valerie was preceded in death by her father, Les James and her mother, Mida James.

She is survived by her two sons, Tadan and Chad Ryan; sister and brother-in-law, Missy and Mark Wright; and her brother and sister-in-law, John and Denise James. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, all who loved her dearly.

Valerie loved to travel and cook; she enjoyed the many family activities and sporting events with sons and family. She participated in local ceremonies of her Miwok people and was a member of the Tohono O’odham Nation in Chui Chu, Ariz.

Most of all, as a single parent, she was proud of her two sons, Tadan and Chad. They were the light of her life and she will be missed everyday by them and the rest of her family and community.

She was a very special woman who left us too soon.

Special thanks from Valerie’s family go out to Mary Ann Green for her kindness and generosity.

At this time, because of the Covid-19 pandemic, family will be in attendance only at the internment.
