The Mariposa County High School Grizzly Hall of Fame induction ceremony is back for another year. It will be held Saturday, June 16 in Sequoia Hall at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds.

The event honors some of the most successful athletes, student-athletes and teams in the history of MCHS. The event was started to honor the legacy of educators and coaches Loyd Hobby and Ed Vegely, who dedicated years of their careers to enriching the lives of student-athletes in Mariposa.

Hobby and Vegely are expected to be in attendance this year.

Inductees into the Hall of Fame this year will include Jim Musick and Ron Ritchie, two diehard supporters of Grizzly sports. They are on the sidelines of nearly every MCHS sporting event, cheering on the athletes and even traveling to games out of town.

Community member Jason Dubberke will also be inducted. Dubberke has donated thousands of dollars to Grizzly athletics.

In addition to Musick, Ritchie and Dubberke being honored, two teams will be inducted. Those are the 1976 and 1977 MCHS baseball teams.

The two student-athletes who will receive the Grizzly scholarship this year are Violet Matlock and Joey Freitas.

“They’re both fantastic athletes in their respective sports,” said MCHS co-athletic director Trace DeSandres. “It’s always been a positive thing for Mariposa County High School and for two very accomplished student-athletes each year. To date we have raised $170,000 for this amazing scholarship.”

There will be a social hour from 5:30-6:30 p.m. followed by a dinner and the induction ceremony.

Tickets are $40 and are available at Mariposa Feed, MCHS’s campus or by calling DeSandres at (209) 966-8176.
