Ted English passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018 surrounded by family in the home of his daughter, Carol.
Ted was born in 1924. He was married on June 21, 1943 to Shirley M. Hicks of Happy, Texas, and moved to Madera, Calif., in the same year.
Ted was inducted into the U.S. Army in August of 1943 and served in World War II, the 392nd Rainbow Division Field Artillery Battalion in the Pacific Theater. His highest rank was Tec 5.
Ted and Mary Foster, his loving companion of 49 years, lived in Mariposa for 23 years and he helped raise her son Charles Foster. He enjoyed all of his 16 great-grandchildren and loved fishing and camping with them. Ted was a member of the Mariposa Rock and Mineral Club and the Avon Club of Madera.
He had a passion for music. Ted loved playing his guitar at every event Mary and dad hosted. He would be singing and grinning. He knew the Lord and played as a young man in the church Gospel Defenders and later in life a time or two with his son-in-law, Joe, in Madera’s Friday night Gospel singing. Many remember his generosity, kindness and infectious smile.
He was proud to be a part of the Honor Flight for Veteran’s that went to Washington D.C. in 2015 to see the World War II Memorial.
Ted worked for 40 years at Madera’s McCully Shell Oil Distributors as a truck driver.
Ted is survived by ex-wife Shirley English; sons, Randy English of Lincoln, Calif., Stephen English and his wife Ellie, of Madera; daughters Shirlene English of Madera, Carol Fuentes and her husband, Joe, of Madera; and Diana Brack and her husband, Paul of Madera. He was the proud grandfather to eight grandchildren.
