Suspected shooter given additional charges by district attorney’s office

A man accused of firing shots at a sheriff’s deputy in Mariposa County now has additional charges.
Douglas Popke, 69, has now been charged with attempted first degree murder of a peace officer and assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer.
Mariposa County District Attorney Walter Wall announced the charges last week. Popke was in Mariposa County Superior Court on Tuesday morning.
He was appointed attorney Wayne Greene, who said Popke is pleading not guilty to all charges.
