Stanford Hugo Stoffels

Stan passed away on Sept. 29. He was born in New Jersey on Feb. 15, 1921 but became a lifetime California resident when the family moved to Glendale soon after his birth.

His interest in photography during high school led to a career in that field for several years. He subsequently became a self-taught locksmith, returned to his father’s profession as a printer for a time, then had his own successful locksmith business in the Bay Area where he made his home with his first wife, Ruth, and their three children.

In 1990, Stan retired to a recently purchased home in Bootjack where he married Elizabeth Watts. He utilized his carpentry, electrical and mechanical skills to renovate the many homes in which he lived and even the recreational vehicles in which he enjoyed travelling before moving into an apartment in Mariposa in 2007.

Stan is survived by his children, Jeneva, Sid and Steven Stoffels; daughters-in-law, Ruth Stoffels and Darlene Holecek; granddaughters, Sheri English Kyleen Cornell (Charley), Tamara Fleishman (Matt), and Jennifer Stoffels; one great-granddaughter, and three (soon to be four) great-grandsons. He is also survived by his brother, Herman Stoffels.

A celebration memorial of Stan’s life will be scheduled at a later date. The family wishes to express its gratitude to those incredible individuals who provided compassionate care for Stan during his last few years.
