Stan Pihl


 

 

Stan Pihl entered into the eternal loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, Dec. 2.

Stan courageously battled cancer for the last several years of his life. Though Stan finally succumbed to cancer, he never succumbed to the spirit of defeat. Stan is a man who never complained about his disease, but continued to display a Christ-like spirit to all who knew him.

Stan held the position of deacon at First Baptist Church of Mariposa until his illness robbed him of his health and vigor. Stan will always be remembered as a faithful servant of Jesus Christ as well as a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Mariposa.

Stan was born in Berkeley, Calif., on April 22, 1941 to Donald S. and Evelyn M. Pihl. He is survived by one brother, Curt, of San Mateo, Calif. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and a brother, Retired Lt. General Donald S. Pihl.

Stan graduated from Albany High School in 1957. He was a two-year letterman in varsity basketball. He also played the clarinet in the school’s band and orchestra.

Stan graduated from UC Berkeley in 1961 with a degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting. He later earned his master’s degree in business administration from Golden Gate University, San Francisco.

He worked for Emporium Capwell, Itel and Atari corporations. He also served as a management consultant for a variety of business concerns. Many will know Stan from meeting him in Pioneer Market where he served as a bookkeeper, computer assistant and promotional pricing projects.

His many interests included: Hiking, rock-climbing, cross-country skiing, classical and modern music, reading, Bible study and scripture memorization. He also authored several inspirational pamphlets.

Most of all his close friends in Mariposa will remember him as a deeply spiritual man who put all of his faith and trust in Jesus Christ, and inspired all who knew him.

There will be a celebration of Stan’s life on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Mariposa, 5005 Frank Wilson Road, which is up the hill behind the CAL FIRE station on Highway 49 North.
