School suspensions, expulsions down in state for second year

Mariposa County's truancy rate was at 13 percent last year


State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson recently announced a 20 percent drop in the number of students expelled in 2013-14 and a 15.2 decline in the number of students suspended. This marks the second year in a row of declines in both areas.
In a report done late last year by the office of California’s Attorney General Kamala D. Harris, the truancy rate in Mariposa County was 13 percent.
