Robert Jakl

Robert Allan Jakl went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, Nov. 15, 2021.

Bob was born to Frank and Francis Jakl in Oak Park, Ill., on July 9, 1932. He was raised in Hinsdale, Ill., where he went to school and had remained friends with several classmates from Hinsdale High School.

Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was involved in Operation Wigwam, the first underwater nuclear explosion. He was also a veteran of the Korean War.

Following his time in the service, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth Jane Tennent in October of 1957. They were married 64 years.

They raised three fantastic sons and a wonderful daughter. Bob went to college in Chicago for electrical engineering. After spending five years at New Mexico State University at the White Sands Missile Range, he joined Sperry Flight Systems where he spent the majority of his career. His job at Sperry moved the family from Arizona to California to Oklahoma, back to Arizona, and then Georgia.

Bob and Elizabeth retired in Mariposa in 1989 where they have since been faithful members of the Mariposa Church of Christ. In addition to raising a family, Bob had a passion for model railroading, specifically in O Scale. During retirement he fulfilled a lifelong dream of building and completing a spectacular model railroad layout, helped by many friends and family and enjoyed by thousands of visitors.

Bob is survived by his wife Elizabeth; sons, Perry, Ed, and Tom; daughter, Joyful Stoves; grandchildren, Katie, Jennifer, Isaiah and Willow; his brother, Richard; and sister, Arlene.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Jimmy.
