Richard “Dick” Edwards Bonde passed away peacefully from this Earth on Oct. 30, 2018 in Mariposa at the age of 96.
He was born May 17, 1922 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Hans and Dale Bonde.
Dick is survived by his sons, Rick Bonde and Bruce Bonde (Kristen); daughter Gail Neal ( Jerry); stepson, Steve Crezee; and stepdaughter, Kathleen Obra and daughter-in-law Sally Beriele. He also leaves behind three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren along with many step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Gladys, and his wife of 18 years, Delores, as well as his stepson, Bob Beriele.
Dick attended five years of college as a pre-med student until deciding to join the Army Air Corp (later the U.S. Air Force) after the start of WWII. Dick remained in the Air Force for 26 years, traveling the world as a flight navigator until retiring in 1968 as a Lt. Colonel.
After his military service, Dick and his family moved to Mariposa, where he had family roots. Dick worked another 25- plus years for the Greenameyer’s Sand and Gravel plant and had a significant role in the building of Idle Wheels Mobile Home Park.
After his second retirement, Dick and Gladys spent many years traveling with their close friends, Chauncy and Joanne Haynes. Dick loved playing golf and being active in the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Right, Tehran Shrine Temple, Odd Fellows, VFW, Legion of Honor and the Clampers.
Dick enjoyed a long, active life. He was generous, kind and passionate about everything he did.
Services for Dick will be held Nov. 17, 2018 at noon at the Masonic Lodge (5154 Jones Street) in Mariposa. Remembrances can be sent to Dick’s favorite charity, the Castle Air Museum.
