Mariposa County could be facing a financial crisis — sooner than later.
That crisis stems from the ongoing issue of employee retirement and as it stands, Mariposa County currently has $50 million in unfunded liabilities which will be needed to fund the retirement system.
“That is an estimate of what we could potentially owe,” said Louis Mercado, the deputy County treasurer who will be taking over as the treasurer at the beginning of 2018.
