Raymond Winowiski

Raymond John Joseph Winowiski, known to all as Ski, passed away at his home on Oct. 18, 2018 at the age of 78.

Ski was born in Elmwood Township, Mich. on June 27, 1940. He was the son of John and Virginia (Myshock) of Traverse

He was seventh in line of 12 children. His older siblings were Louise, Marvin, Irene, Marilyn, Irwin and Janet, and his younger siblings were John, Julia, Rita, Carol and Beverly.

Ski served as a Marine — First Battalion MCSC from 1957 to 1960 and was stationed at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, Calif.

In 1976, Ski met Sylvia (aka Smoke) and they married in July of 1987. Many happy years were spent on the DougCo III cattle ranch in Raymond where he was a ranch foreman. Holidays and brandings were celebrated there with friends and family and the grandchildren, especially, who always had a great time exploring, riding horses and swimming in the pond. Ski and Sylvia would make guests feel welcome and loved to listen to music, enjoy a beverage and kick up their heels on the dance floor.

Ski was preceded in death by his parents, John and Virginia, and by his brothers Marvin, Irwin and John, and sisters Carol and Beverly.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sylvia; loving sisters, Louise, Marilyn, Irene, Janet, Julia and Rita; a son, Jason; and six daughters.

One of his great joys in life was spending time with his grandchildren: Scott, Danny, Jeff, Candice, Vince, Desiree, Cassie, Michael, William, Lindsey, Tana, Tim, Dillon, Logan, Christina and Meranda and great grandchildren: Justin, Shayna, Maddie, Ella, Kylie, Marley, Vanessa, Max, Kadin, Wyatt, Brandon and Draken.

A special thank you to the doctors and staff at Doctor’s Hospital and Robbie Burgess, hospice nurse, for their kindness and compassion.

A celebration of life will take place at the Mariposa Fish and Game Hall in Bootjack on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018 at noon.
