Reader Bob Ummels snapped these photos recently near Bear Valley. According to Jaime Williams, public information officer for the Madera-Mariposa Merced Unit of CAL FIRE, firefighters were dispatched to Highway 49 North near Pendola Gardens at 4:38 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6 to a report of a fire with a structure threatened. Firefighters quickly responded and by 5:03 p.m., it was contained. The scene was cleared at 6:47 p.m. Williams said approximately .38 acres burned. There were no injuries and no structures were damaged, however, the tractor was obviously destroyed. The other photo shows a Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office deputy helping out during the incident.
