A Mariposa resident faces three felony counts and two misdemeanor charges related to sex charges against two minors.
Michael Thomas Paige, 18, made an appearance last week in Mariposa County Superior Court where he pleaded not guilty to the charges.
He remains in the Mariposa County Jail under a $100,000 bond.
Paige is accused of several sexual-related counts.
According to court documents, on or about Aug. 9, 2017, Paige is accused of the crime of sodomy of a person under the age of 18, a felony. It accuses Paige of committing sodomy on the victim under 18 in Mariposa County.
In the second count, Paige is accused of committing a lewd act on child in Monterey County on Sept. 1, 2017. In this instance, the victim is listed as under the age of 14. It accuses Paige of committing the act for his own “sexual desires.”
Count three of the complaint accuses Paige of committing a lewd act on a child, also a felony, from Aug. 9-27, 2017, in Mariposa County. This count is also on a child under the age of 14.
The fourth count is a misdemeanor for indecent exposure. It alleges that between Sept. 9-25, 2017, Paige committed the act on a victim under the age of 18.
The fifth count of child molesting, also listed as a misdemeanor, was alleged to have happened between Sept. 9-25 in Mariposa County on a victim under the age of 18.
Conviction on the charges carries various penalties and requirements, including registering as a sex offender. It could also mean Paige has to submit to an HIV/ AIDS test.
According to the documents, Judge Douglas Boyack, a retired Tuolumne County jurist has been assigned to the case.
Paige’s next appearance is set for 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018.
