Michael Edward Lichtenstein

May 13, 1939 - January 29, 2018


Michael Lichtenstein passed away Jan. 29, 2018, at Clovis Community Medical Center in Clovis, Calif.

He was born May 13, 1939, in San Francisco and raised in Oakland by Marjorie S. and George B. Lichtenstein. Michael attended Oakland High School and received his degree at U.C. Berkeley.

As a young man, he worked for Yosemite Park & Curry Company as Chief Desk Clerk at Camp Curry and a desk clerk at the Ahwahnee Hotel. Michael was also named an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America in 1956 and was a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow, scouting’s honor camping society. He was also a member of the Oakland Area Council’s High Sierra camp.



Michael joined the United States Air Force where he served as a supply officer at Pease AFB, New Hampshire, for two years, during the “Cuban Missile Crisis.” He was a combat ready missile launch officer at Fairchild AFB, Washington, and a highly-qualified Missile Combat Crew Commander on the Minuteman ICBM in Great Falls, Montana. Michael was a member of The American Industrial Hygiene Association, National Multiple Sclerosis Society and was a long-time member and sponsor of many men in the Al-Anon Family Groups.

Michael was very active in the community and published several articles in the local newspaper. He worked together with Mariposa agencies and was instrumental in making improvements to the town of Mariposa.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Carol P. Lichtenstein; daughters, Jodi Lynn Gonzales and Lori Ann Thomas; step-daughters, Lisa Diane Drake Campbell and Denise Price Drake; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren, along with many extended family members and friends.

Per Michael’s wishes, there will not be a formal funeral service. The family will hold a private ceremony to be determined later.
