Long effort is now paying off for Ben Hur wine pioneers

South county zone is winning recognition for white varietals


Mike and Leslie Rauch enjoyed a light moment while tending vines in their Ben Hur Road vineyard last week. With neighbor George Radanovich, the pair are now seeing some fruits of their labor following several decades of experimentation.About five miles below Highway 49 South, Ben Hur Road enters a picturesque valley. Here, with granite soil and summers that grow hot, but not scorching, a group of winemakers are hitting paydirt with white varietals.
The achievement didn’t happen overnight....
