Kevin Michael Orton joined our family on April 14, 1981, and he left us unexpectedly on March 16, 2020, in Mariposa.
Kev was a man of many trades; he was an excellent and creative chef, a talented photographer, avid reader, movie buff and fisherman extraordinaire. As a child, he was enthralled with the World Wrestling Federation, and his siblings, cousins and friends often bore the brunt of many of his practice wrestling moves on the trampoline. He knew how to make people laugh with his wry sense of humor and quick wit. He was most comfortable taking care of his dog, and talking with family and friends by a bonfire.
Though he was born in Ventura, Calif., Kevin spent the majority of his life in Mariposa. He attended Mariposa County schools, and then worked as a union laborer in Yosemite National Park for over a decade. While there, he met and remained close with many of his long-time friends. Most of Kevin’s best memories included his time in the park, and we know that living there was a bright spot in his life.
We were not ready to lose him, but we know that many people will continue to remember Kevin in a multitude of ways. We are grateful to everyone who invested in his life and made it better.
He will always be loved and remembered by those he left behind: his mother, Janette Parrish; brother, James Orton; sister, Molly Wilson; father, Michael Orton; step-father, Mark Parrish, and by all of his beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, local and global friends and his best dog, Sierra.
We are postponing Kevin’s official celebration of life until we can gather together again in person. Please look forward to a future announcement about that day, and in the meantime, think of your best story to share about Kevin.
In lieu of flowers or donations, we welcome any letters written with fond memories, or snapshots of Kevin, to be mailed to his mom, Jeanette Parrish, P.O. Box 1499, Mariposa, CA 95338.
