The loss is immeasurable but so is the love left behind.
Kenneth Winston Hurst-Smith (Kenny) touched an overwhelming number of lives, and at only 25 years old, passed away on Nov. 1, 2019 in Mariposa, Calif. Kenny was born in Hayward, Calif. on Sept. 20, 1994, to his parents, Mike Hurst and Sabrina Gouveia Smith.
He grew up in Mariposa and had an extremely infectious smile. He was passionate about his spiritual life, his native culture, teaching people to love themselves, and was an extraordinary skateboarder, winning several skate competitions in recent years. He participated in the protest of the Dakota pipeline in 2016. He spent countless hours helping others learn to meditate, to be calm and be present. He had a green thumb and a huge heart.
Kenneth lives on through his parents; brothers Shane Hurst, Michael James Hurst, David JR Russel, Thomas Gouveia-Smith, Jason Alvarado, Arturo Garza Jr.; sister, Cynthia Garza; grandmothers, Diane Balloue and Mercy Smith; grandfathers John Balloue (deceased) and Larry Hurst (deceased); aunts and uncles Randall Philip Hurst, Elizabeth Balloue and Rebecca Larimer.
Kenneth loved his family and included many as family even if not by blood. His kind and wise words uplifted so many people and although he might not be here anymore, his spirit will forever be with us.
There will be a memorial service held on Dec. 7 at Set Free Church at 4609 Highway 49 South, Mariposa at 11 a.m. Following the service will be a graveside service at Mariposa Cemetery and then food afterwards at Set Free.
