Helen Kwalwasser

Helen Bernice “Nanny” Kwalwasser passed peacefully on Friday evening, March 5, 2021 at the age of 79 with her family at her side.

Helen is survived by her four beloved children: Lorri Abston, Annette (Sonny) Palmer, Debbie (Darrel) Tomlin and David (Dyia) Kwalwasser; 10 grandchildren, Crystal, Kaitlyn, Nathan, James, Clara, Kayla, Madison, Peyton, Walt and Jordyn; two great-granddaughters, Alasca Rae and Raegan Mae; six siblings, Billie McBride, Mebble (Gene) Hansen, Lanell Auldridge, Cora Shipley, Sheila (Danny) Call and Michael (Kathy) Crain; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as all of her many loyal friends and customers of Triangle Market who greeted her with a smile every day — some whom affectionately called her “Nanny.”

She was preceded in death by her husband Nate Kwalwasser, parents Lawson and Eileen Crain, sister Mary Frantzich and brother Bill Crain.

Helen was born on Sept. 14, 1941, in Holly Ridge, La., to Lawson and Eileen Crain. Lawson and Eileen moved their family from Louisiana to Fresno, Calif., in 1944.

Helen loved going to all of her kids and grandkids sporting events and other activities. She was a lifetime Mariposa Grizzlies Booster Club member, and she loved going on their annual “sister trips” touring back roads across the country while visiting family and friends all along the way.

She was an active and dedicated supporter of kids programs like Kiwanis Club and their preschool, Future Farmers of America and 4-H. She adored antiquing. And, as everyone in the community knows, she loved working the store and visiting with all her friends that others would call customers.

On Saturday, March 20, there will be a viewing at the Catheys Valley Cemetery Pavilion at 10 a.m. with services scheduled for 11 a.m. Join us at the Catheys Valley Cemetery, 5356 Hornitos Road in Catheys Valley.

Helen’s entire family would like to thank all of the nurses at John C. Fremont Home Health and Hospice for their amazing care and kindness toward Helen and her family.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ivers and Alcorn Funeral Home.
