Giving it a name

John Mendonca, a neighbor to Sierra Foothill Charter School in Cathey’s Valley, has horses that graze alongside the school’s driveway. He asked the students to name his two new mares. Before winter break, each class submitted names. Mendonca’s granddaughters chose their favorites, Poppy and Coco. Teena Starchman’s class submitted a winning name. Mendonca then donated $100 for all of the students to have an ice cream treat. School administrators thanked him for his generosity and thoughtfulness. ...
