Gerald F. Du Paul




Gerald Francis De Paul died at John C. Fremont Hospital on Jan. 20 after a lengthy illness.

He was born to Francis and Altha Du Paul on Oct. 2, 1936, in Minot, ND. In 1947, the family moved to a farm north of Carpio, ND. He attended high school at St. Leo’s and Minot High School, graduating in 1955. He served for three years in the US Army Signal Corps during the Korean War.

He moved to California managing the company store at the New Idria quicksilver mine in the Diablo mountains for seven years. He married his wife, Edith, in 1971 in Gilroy where they later owned and operated the South Santa Clara County Beverage Distributorship. Later, he worked as route manager for ARA Food Services in Salinas. He and his wife moved to Mariposa after retiring in 1989.

He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and Moose Lodge in Gilroy. He enjoyed gardening and traveling, spending winters in Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Janice. Surviving family includes his wife, Edith; children, Clifford of Wawona, Lyn of Los Banos, Debra River of Boise, ID; Robbert Willis of Hollister, and Gaylene Stevens of Germantown, Tenn.; brother, Dale of Forest Lake, Minn.; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandsons.

A memorial service was held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mariposa, followed by interment at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park in Gilroy. Memorial contributions can be made to John C. Fremont Hospital Ewing Wing or Manna House.
