He was born Jan. 31, 1919 in Turlock. He was the last surviving of 12 children of Ingebright A.L. Riise, an immigrant from Saebo, Norway, and Minnie J. Ricketts of Bieber, Calif.
He was born at then new Emanuel Hospital. In the 1920s, his father managed a large farm for the Storer family at the corner of Taylor Road and Mt. View Road in Turlock.
He attended grammar school at Mt. View School and attended Turlock High. George served in the U.S. Army from 1936 to 1940. While an M.P. at Hawaii Wheeler/Scofield field, he served as security for Amelia Earhart just prior to her disappearance in July 1937.
George is survived by his wife, Jane, of Mariposa; stepdaughter, Sue Kilgore; stepson Lyle Kesler; step granddaughter, Tarah Eastwood; great-grandchildren, Leighla, Josslyn and Ameliah; children, Diane Riise Jennings and granddaughter Tirzah of Modesto, Don Riise ( Judy) of Oakdale, Heidi Riise Roberts (Geo) of Colorado Springs, Colo., Eric Riise ( Julie) of Washington, Andrea Riise Hemsley (Robert) of Turlock and Aaron Riise (Monica) of Cloudcroft, N.M.
He had 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Donations in George’s memory can be made at Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson, Calif.
A celebration of life/potluck and fellowship will be announced at a later date.
