Gary Dean Pitman, Jr., was born Oct. 26, 1975, and left to be with the Creator on Oct. 2, 2021.

Gary was born in Merced, Calif. He is a tribal member of the Southern Sierra Miwuk Nation. He moved to Mariposa in 1997 and developed his skills as an arborist. He met the love of his life, Megan, in 2003 and they married in 2011. Together they share six amazing children and two grandchildren.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Gary Dean Pitman, Sr. of Oregon and Christine Evelyn Jones of Mariposa; and his nephew, Jeremy Duffield of Mariposa.

He is survived by his wife and best friend, Megan Pitman; children Dominic Pitman of Merced, Chance Lopez of San Jose, Gary Pitman III of Mariposa; and Dallas Reed, Andrea Pitman and Aiden Pitman, all of Fresno. Also, his grandchildren, Atianna and CJ of San Jose; siblings, Greg Jones of Merced, Danny Duffield of Merced, Patty Duffield of Mariposa, Terry Pitman of Merced and Crystal Pitman of Merced; and a multitude of aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gary’s life was centered around his family. His smile and laugh could brighten even the darkest day. You couldn’t know Gary and not love him. Gary believed that there was no death, only a changing of worlds. Our Bear has moved on to the other side to be with the Creator. He will be forever missed.

Potluck services will be held Dec. 4 at 2 p.m. at the Midpines Hall. This will be an alcohol-free event.
