Alfred Bottino, Fred to most who knew him, passed on Aug. 15, 2021, at Doctor’s Hospital in Modesto, Calif.
Born on Feb. 9, 1930, to Evasio and Angelina Bottino, Fred grew up and attended schools in South San Francisco, receiving a bachelor of science degree in business administration from UC Berkeley.
After serving in the U.S. Army, Fred pursued a career in the retail sector of business for over 35 years.
Fred was always happiest outdoors. He loved nature all of his life. His outdoor interests included, but were not limited, to hunting, fishing, breeding Arabian horses for riding and racing and working with dogs.
He raised his children in Portola Valley where he was a member of the city council, the Mounted Patrol of San Mateo County and the Shack Riders of Portola Valley. Fred loved nothing better than a trail ride with good friends.
Appreciation for natural beauty drew him to the Mariposa area in 1988 where he pursued his outdoor interests. He maintained his membership in the Los Banos Duck Club, and at home, continued the breeding and raising of Arabian and thoroughbred horses.
Fred is survived by his wife, Phyllis; daughter, Denise; son-in-law, Bobby; son, David; brother, David; and granddaughter, Danielle.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
