Fire funding major issue for officials


Last November, voters in Mariposa County gave the green light to increase the transient occupancy tax, which is collected from visitors who rent rooms, houses and other accommodations in the county.
Now, county officials are starting discussions on how to spend the approximately $3 million which is anticipated from those funds on an annual basis.
Measure M was passed under the premise the funds would be used for fire protection, public safety and roads.
