Students at El Portal Elementary School were hit hard recently with flu-like symptoms.
Just before the President’s Day holiday break, on Feb. 14, 26 students out of 82 — or 32 percent of the students at the school — were home sick.
“If you do the percentage, that’s surreal,” said principal Sean Jacobs.
On the day 26 children were ill, the school also had six staff members experiencing flu-like symptoms, which comprised half of the school staff.
