She is survived by her mother, Anne Hammer; brother, Thomas Hammer; sister, Becky Horen; children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephew; partner John Diaz; and lifelong friends, Pam Coats, Marsha McCarty, Kim Beck and Cindy Griffen.
Cindy’s children and their spouses are Corinne Britt, Rebecca Garcia, James Romero, Eric Britt, Heidi Britt, Tiffany Romero and Chris Garcia.
She was Nana to her grandchildren, Chris, George, Devon, Kyle, Ian, Clyde, Richard, Alex, Cynthia, Brandon, Austin, Angel, Chase, Abigail and James; and great grandchildren Kalaiah, Connor and Sabrina, and God-Nana to Chenesha, and Tonekup.
Cindy was born on Dec. 19, 1955 in Sunland-Tujunga, Calif. to Anne and Lester Hammer. She loved her parents and spoke fondly of her childhood with her brother Tom and sister Becky. She was proud of her childhood accomplishments of being a Campfire Girl, Boy Scout and at 17 attending Glendale Community College to earn her LVN.
Cindy’s life changed forever in 1974 when she met James Victor Romero. Their first date was Valentine’s Day and she married “Jimmy” on Sept. 7 that year. They were married 40 “magic” years. He was her best friend until Jimmy passed on April 6, 2014.
They moved from Los Angeles to be near Yosemite because of Cindy’s love of the outdoors. They lived in Coarsegold, Mariposa, and finally bought property in Oakhurst.
Cindy’s occupations included labor and delivery nurse, quality control supervisor at Sierra Online, reservations and front desk. Cindy was a union representative, member of Grandma’s Club, and loved many things in life including music, travel and herbal medicine.
Cindy was tireless, fearless, generous, colorful, loving, fiercely loyal and known for her hugs. Her friends were like family, and their names are too many to list. Cindy was blessed to find love a second time with her partner, John Diaz, a lifelong friend.
Cindy was preceded in death by her father Les, husband Jim, and grandson Chris.
Her church ceremony was held Jan. 6 at Yosemite Lakes Church Chapel at in Coarsegold with a reception at the YLP Clubhouse.
