Barbara Saye was born April 3, 1927 in Los Angeles. She passed away on Oct. 3, 2018 in Merced.
Barbara had moved with her parents Lilburn and Dorothy Schatz to Mariposa in 1943. She graduated from Mariposa County High School in 1945 and went to work in the Mariposa County Auditor-Recorders office at the courthouse. When Bill Saye returned from World War lI service in the Air Force, they were married in 1946.
Barbara worked in the Auditor-Recorders office for 38 years, completing her career as the elected Auditor Recorder from 1971 to 1983.
During her life, she was active at times in the Native Daughters, Soroptimists, Eastern Star, MCHS Alumni Association, County Employees Association, Methodist Church Women’s Society and as a volunteer at the senior citizens center. She enjoyed working together with her husband Bill in the various businesses they owned over the years. These included the Mariposa Feed Store, the Frost Shop, developing real estate and being part of the group that founded Yosemite Bank.
Barbara was proceeded in death by her husband Bill who passed away in 2004. She leaves her sister-in-law Lorraine Walker; nephew Bill Boeck and wife Susan; niece Terry Gonzales and husband Johnny; nephews Tom Gordon and Robert Gordon and wife Lori; cousin Lulu Ann Sparks and her son Steven and wife Nelda. She lived a rich, full life and will be missed by friends and family.
Per her request, no services are planned. Memorials can be sent to the Mariposa United Methodist Church.
