Ann Trankla

Ann Trankla (nee Holzinger) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018 at her daughter Catherine’s home.

Ann was born on Nov. 29, 1922 in Los Angeles, the first of three children of Valentine and Mae Holzinger. She attended Alhambra High School and was a member of Sts. Felicitas and Perpetua Church.

She married Joe Trankla in 1943, and they had four daughters. The couple spent their lives in Southern California, residing in San Mario and Newport Beach. Ann’s idea of heaven would definitely include the Pacific Ocean.

She traveled extensively, finding great joy and personal growth in new experiences and places. During her lifetime, she took over 40 cruises. She loved to arrive in a new country and take off walking — getting a special thrill if she took a different path from most.

As a volunteer at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach for many years, she got great satisfaction in helping others. Ann was a skilled seamstress, making and embroidering beautiful clothing. She was an accomplished homemaker, taking great pride in her beautiful home and entertaining her husband’s business interests and friends.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband Joe and her sister and brother-in-law Betty and Stan Chandler.

She is survived by brother Ed Holzinger; daughters and spouses Joanne and Allen Harrison of Borrego Springs, Chris and Neil Bruington of Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Catherine and Jeff Pichel of Mariposa and Karen and Jim Whelan of Etna; grandchildren Gregory, Ryan, Jill, Dana, Kelsey and John; and great-grandchildren Sophie, Mia and Lucas.

Ann and her family would like to express special thanks to Jeff and Catherine who opened their home and hearts to her and provided her with loving care these last years. They would also like to thank Dr. Robert Rose and all the ladies at JCF Hospice.

No services are planned at this time.
