Truck full of manure crashes in incident on Highway 140

A manure-hauling semi overturned on Highway 140 last weekend, blocking traffic and sending a man to the hospital for moderate injuries.

According to the California Highway Patrol, at around 9:38 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 24, Philip Crites, 44, of Winton, was driving a 1999 Mack truck pulling two utility trailers containing chicken manure westbound on Highway 140 just east of Lower Trower Road.

According to the CHP, the driver, for an unknown reason, allowed the vehicle to overturn onto its left side at the bottom of the Guadalupe Grade. The vehicle, which was traveling at an unknown rate of speed, came to rest in front of the B-J Ranch, blocking both lanes of traffic.

Crites was transported to Doctor’s Medical Center in Modesto for moderate injuries as a result of the wreck.

The CHP said the case remains under investigation but alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

Conditions at the time of the accident were listed as dry and warm.
