Pair arrested for taking majority of contents in home

After more than a month of investigating, two suspects have been arrested for a major burglary in Cathey’s Valley.

The suspects removed almost everything from the home during the Sept. 14 robbery, according to the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office.

Crystal Gonzalez-Alatorre, 24, and Christopher Reyes, 36, both of Merced, were arrested on Oct. 25 by the sheriff’s office.

According to the report, the sheriff’s office responded on Sept. 14 to Cathey’s Valley for a report of a residential burglary. The homeowners said they had recently finished building their home and were in the process of moving into the structure.

Deputies discovered the suspects removed almost everything inside the home and what they didn’t take was damaged.

Among the items taken were two Polaris side by sides, all of the living room furniture, throw pillows, artwork, generators, a wood splitter, televisions, all kitchen appliances, dining room tables, window shades, coffee cups, washer, dryer, mattresses, multiple dressers and, according to the report, even a dog bowl.

The sheriff’s office conducted an extensive investigation spanning two counties and on Oct. 25 made the arrests in the 1000 block of Loughborough Drive in Merced.

The detectives, upon making the arrest, found “multiple items matching those taken from the home in Cathey’s Valley,” according to the report.

Both of the suspects were booked into the Mariposa County Jail. Both were charged with felony burglary, felony receiving stolen property and felony conspiracy to commit a crime.

Officials said the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with more information can contact the sheriff’s office at (209) 966-3615 or the anonymous tip hotline (209) 966-3476.
