Events, fundraisers set for Detwiler Fire relief

Several businesses and organizations around Mariposa County are holding events and fundraisers to raise money or supplies for those affected by the Detwiler Fire.

Others have already made donations. Here are some of the charitable things going on around the County:

Foundation accepts donations

The Mariposa Community Foundation is accepting donations to support citizens harmed by the Detwiler Fire. All donations directed to the Detwiler Fire will be used exclusively for that purpose. Donations may be made directly at Yosemite Bank, or made out to the Mariposa Community Foundation with the notation, Detwiler Fire. Mail to the foundation at PO Box 5008- 229, Mariposa, CA 95338.

1850 holding parking lot party

1850 Restaurant will be showing its support for those affected by the Detwiler Fire.

The restaurant will be holding the Mariposa Strong Parking Lot Party on Saturday, Aug. 12. The restaurant will donate a portion of the proceeds from all bar and food sales to the Mariposa Community Foundation.

There will be a food booth, live music and outdoor bar open at 5 p.m. The restaurant is open all day from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Anyone unable to make the event but that would still like to donate can do so at www.mariposacommunityfoundation.org.

Clampers, Miner’s team up

The E. Clampus Vitus Matuca Chapter 1849 and Miner’s Roadhouse 140 are teaming up to host a BBQ benefit fundraiser for victims of the Detwiler Fire.

It will be held at Miner’s Roadhouse, located at 5159 Highway 140 in Mariposa. There will be $10 BBQ specials offered, and E. Clampus Vitus will distribute 100 percent of the proceeds toward fire recovery.

Pay it forward with Red Cross

Donations can be made to the Red Cross to help those affected by the Detwiler Fire and similar disasters.

For example, a tax-deductible donation of $30 gets a family of four clean-up kits, including a mop, bucket, disinfectant and more, while $75 provides warm blankets for 10 individuals impacted by disaster.

Pizza Factory, Yosemite Falls Well Drilling make large donations

Pizza Factory will be making a $25,000 one-time donation and Yosemite Falls Well Drilling will be making a one-time $10,000 donation to the Mariposa Community Foundation to support victims of the Detwiler Fire.

On every second Saturday of the month over the next year, from 5-8 p.m., Pizza Factory will be donating a percentage of its sales to the Mariposa Community Foundation.

Motorcycle club donates $1,000

The board of the Sierra Shadow Casters, a social motorcycle club based in the region, has approved donating $1,000 to help families with children recover from the Detwiler Fire.

On Saturday, Aug. 5, all SSC members and any friends that want to show support are asked to come participate in the check presentation at New Life Christian Fellowship, 5089 Cole Road, in Mariposa. The SSC will meet at the Hitching Post at 10 a.m. and ride to Mariposa together. The presentation will be at 11 a.m.

These funds are being managed by the Mariposa Community Foundation which is a nonprofit charitable organization. One hundred percent of the SSC donation will go to needy families.

AAUW extends backpack project

The Mariposa AAUW Backpack Project gift registry website has been updated to help accommodate children whose homes have been damaged or destroyed during the Detwiler Fire.

Children with homes damaged or destroyed in northern Mariposa County who attend Greeley Hill/Coulterville High School will be included. The drop off date has been extended to Aug. 4. The drop off site will continue to be Starchman and Bryant Law Offices, 4750 Highway 49 South, in Mariposa.

Donations are accepted from 8:30 a.m. to noon or 1-4:30 p.m. every weekday.

AAUW and community members donate items to fill the packs. To lend a hand and donate school essentials that will fill the backpacks for children who may not otherwise have them, visit http://www.freegiftregistry.com/backpacks.

This site gives the option to donate money or to donate specific school supplies for the project.

If anyone has friends or family who are interested in helping but are not sure how due to distance, they are welcome to visit the site.

Furniture, appliances accepted

Donations of large furnishings and/or large appliances are being accepted for Detwiler Fire victims. Call (209) 742-5017.

Corwin Family Fund

For anyone wanting to donate to the Clarence Corwin Family Fund, it is at Yosemite Bank.

This is to help in the loss of their home and belongings in the Detwiler Fire.

A direct deposit can also be made using account number 807015581 and routing number 121143273.
