Fire crews continue to battle Detwiler Fire

The Detwiler Fire broke out on Sunday and on Monday, crews from around California were staging at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds.

There was also a heavy aerial attack taking place all day long, including a large airliner which has been converted into a tanker.

CAL FIRE officials have not updated the size of the fire since this morning, which was more than 7,000 acres. The fire blew up overnight, going from 2,500 acres.

Flames were visible along the mountainsides west of the Bagby Grade on Monday afternoon. Aerial attacks were focusing on the area just west of the Bagby bridge at Lake McClure.

Jaime Williams from CAL FIRE said on Monday afternoon officials are considering having a community meeting about the Detwiler Fire on Tuesday though no time or place has been set.

Highway 49 North is closed from Pendola Gardens to Highway 132 in Coulterville, according to Caltrans.
