Detwiler Fire swells to 70,000 acres

The Detwiler Fire grew to more than 70,000 acres by Thursday morning.

The massive blaze, which started on July 16 in the Hunters Valley area near Bear Valley, has spread throughout Mariposa County.

CAL FIRE officials are now saying 45 structures have been damaged in the fire. The report did not specify what types of structures were destroyed, though it is know several houses burned in the fire.

In addition, it says six structures have been damaged so far in the fire, which has made national headlines.

CAL FIRE officials said there was an increase in fire activity late Wednesday afternoon. During the overnight hours, fire crews continued to establish and reinforce containment lines. Officials said there has been low humidity during the overnight hours, meaning the fire remains active during that time.

Officials are also reporting the fire is burning in severe tree mortality areas as well as areas with drought-stricken chaparral. Crews are continually assessing the scene.

Power lines to Yosemite National Park continued to be threatened. Power was restored to several areas of the County on Wednesday, including the town of Mariposa.

Evacuation orders remain in effect for many parts of the County.

Those include: South County — Mount Bullion Ridge Rd from Highway 49 North to Highway 140 and all feeder roads; Old Toll Road between Corbett Creek Road and Highway 49N including Corbett Creek Road, Mount Gaines Road to No. 9 Road including No.9 Road; Highway 140 from Hornitos Road to Highway 49S and all feeder roads on both sides, Yaqui Gulch Road from Highway 140 to Old Highway and all feeder roads on both sides, Old Highway from 49S to School House Road and all feeder roads on both sides, Buckeye Road to Ben Hur Road and all feeder roads on both sides, Ben Hur Road from Buckeye Road to Highway 49S, all of Mariposa Town, Highway 140 from 49N to East Whitlock Road and all feeder roads, East Whitlock Road from Highway 140 to Mosher Road and all feeder roads to the west, Hornitos Road from Highway 140 to Mount Gaines Road and all feeder roads on both sides (This includes the community of Whispering Oak), West Whitlock from 49N to Mosher Road and all feeder roads on both sides. Colorado Road from E. Whitlock to Rancheria Creek Road and all feeder roads, Rancheria Creek Rd, all of Sherlock Road and all of Telegraph Road.

North County — Highway 49N from Schilling Road to Oakridge Road and all feeder roads, Highway 132 from Highway 49N to Windy Point, the town of Coulterville, Dogtown Road from Greeley Hill Road to Texas Hill Road, all of Texas Hill Road, Schilling Road from Highway 49N to Texas Hill Road, Greeley Hill Road from Dogtown Road (Coulterville) to Dogtown Road near Bowers Cave. All roads between Greeley Hill Rd and Texas Hill Road.

To date, 410 engines have been used in the fire, 75 dozers, 14 helicopters, multiple airplanes, 56 hand crews. There is a total of 3,181 personnel who have battled the blaze.
