Mildred Bernacchi

Mildred Rosala Bernacchi, a vivacious and caring community member of Modesto and Mariposa, passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2017. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many.

“Millie,” as everyone knew her, was born in Texico, N.M., on March 15, 1921, to Emma and Carl Spence. The Spence family, her brothers Lloyd and Milton, and sisters, Velma, Syble, and Jewel, moved to Manteca, Calif. in 1931. On June 30, 1942, she married Roy Bernacchi, who remained her devoted husband for 50 wonderful years.

Millie found her true calling as a real estate agent and broker, and with her husband Roy operated Bernacchi Real Estate for many years in Modesto. Millie was very active in the Modesto Board of Realtors and went on to serve as president of the board.

Millie was a devout Christian and served God in the First Baptist Church of Modesto and at Mariposa United Methodist Church. In her early church life, she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. Millie was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority for 57 years and eventually served as president of the Northern California Council. She achieved the highest level of Golden Circle Order of the Rose.

Her love of God, life family, and friends will forever be cherished by her loving family.

She is missed and survived by her three children: Jerald Bernacchi (Elli) of Los Altos, Gayle Cook of Oakhurst, and Dean Bernacchi (Leslie) of Mariposa. Her spirit of living life to the fullest, her quick wit, and her tenacity will be treasured with great fondness by her loving grandchildren: Kevin Breault ( Julie) of Roseville, Jenni Avery (Dave) of Los Angeles, Cmdr. Ryan Bernacchi (Rebecca) of Pensacola, Fla., Katie Bernacchi Smith (Mike) of Los Gatos, Leigh Bernacchi Turner (Matt) of Merced, and Tyler Bernacchi (Megan) of El Portal. Millie was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren.

Millie was buried on June 12, 2017 next to loving husband, Roy, at Lakewood Memorial Park in Hughson. The family requests that memorial donations be made to Optimal Hospice Care-Fresno.
