Charlotte Horning

Charlotte D. Horning (Char) passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, May 7, 2017 at her home in Lushmeadows.

Char was born in Central City, Iowa on Aug, 24, 1932. She was the daughter of Gordon and Orlie Horning and the sister to Janet Moore of Sonoma County.

Char was a devoted housewife and mother to her four children before entering into the occupation of Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist after achieving her B.A. in Denver, Colo., and a Master’s degree in San Francisco.

She worked as a therapist serving women, families and children for over 40 years. She raised her family in Marin County then moved to Ashland, Ore., in 1982 where she lived for 25 years before heading briefly to Santa Rosa (Friends House) then finally settling in Mariposa.

She arrived in 2011 at her peaceful home in Mariposa which she named “Rainbow Rest”; a tranquil and peaceful retreat where she lived out her life. Mariposa fed her soul’s desire for the mountains, nature, fresh air and good friends. Char was passionately involved in the Mariposa Hospice Care program and became a Master Gardner in 2012. She enjoyed gardening, painting and cultivating deep connections with friends and family.

Painting was an expressive passion of hers for over 50 years that gave voice to her celebration of life and a journey to awakening. Her paintings were recently featured at the Mariposa Public Library and are currently being displayed at Slim’s Koffee Shak in Mariposa.

She touched so many lives over her 84 years of her life and was one of those people who after meeting her just once, became a dear friend.

Char is survived by her two daughters, Suzen Dyslin (husband Don Florence) and Melanie Rudolph (husband Bill), and her two sons, Mike Dyslin (wife Marsha) and David Dyslin (wife Peggy).

Char was blessed with many grandchildren: Debbie, Michelle, Sara, Hannah, Joshua, Timothy and Kristina; a niece Laura; and nephew Nate.

Our lives will be forever touched by Char’s time here on this earth!

The family is planning a celebration of Char’s life on Saturday, June 10 at Dawn Lake, 4962 Sierra Pines Road, in Lushmeadows Estates from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event will be pot luck. The family will provide BBQ chicken and tri-tip.
