Jack Cheepo

Jack Gene Cheepo passed away on Friday, April 28, 2017 in his sleep at the age of 88.

Jack was born in North Fork, Calif., on July 19, 1928 to John and Mae Cheepo.

On Nov. 22, 1950, he was enlisted into the Army. He did his training and ended up in Honolulu where he was promoted to staff sergeant and teaching new recruits in weapons training. From there he went on to Korea during the Korea conflict. In 1952 he was honorably discharged from the Army.

After his service, Jack went back to work in the timber industry, he worked for the Lumber Company out of North Fork and a few other companies here and there until he met a Miss Morana Turner who became his wife. They made their home in North Fork where they raised their family. It was during that time he went to work for Messer Logging. He stayed with this company up until his retirement. In 1990 they moved to Mariposa.

In his retirement years he enjoyed seeing his grandchildren grow and have children of their own. He would take out his guitar and play and sing a song for them. He would always ask what they were doing and where they were working. He traveled back to Michigan to visit a granddaughter and he enjoyed the sights along the way.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Morana Turner-Cheepo; sister, Laverne Gonzales; brother, Bernard Cheepo; and grandson, Jeremiah Jeff and his parents John and Mae Cheepo.

He is survived by three daughters, June and Tom Eld of Mariposa, Sadie and Darrell Jeff of Lemoore Calif., and Karen Cornelison of Fresno, Calif.; two sons, Adrian Cheepo of Mariposa and Jack Cheepo, Jr. (Luke’s) of Hanford, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Adam Eld, Thomas Eld and Marjorie Jeff of Mariposa, Rhonda Garfield, Raylene Jeff and Jack Jeff of Lemoore, Darrell Jeff of Las Vegas Nev., Gypsie McVicker of Michigan and Joshua Cornelison of Ahwahnee, Calif.; 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
