Becky Crafts

Becky Sue Crafts, 56, of Mariposa, Calif., went home to be with her Lord on March 23, 2017 following a valiant 5-½ year battle with cancer. She entered eternity at home, surrounded by her family whom she loved with all her heart.

Becky was born in Downey, Calif., on Aug. 24, 1960. She grew up in Ahwahnee and moved to Mariposa as a junior in high school, graduating from Mariposa County High School in 1979.

She started working at the Mariposa County Assessor-Recorder’s office in October of 1983. While working she continued her education and graduated from Merced College in 1989. During her employment at the Mariposa County Assessor-Recorder’s Office she worked her way up and served in supervisory/management positions for 14 years and then was elected as the Mariposa County Assessor-Recorder from 2007 to 2017.

Becky married Tim Crafts on Aug. 24, 1985, and they have resided in Mariposa ever since. Becky had her first daughter, Tawni, in 1987 and then had her second daughter, Lindsey, in 1990. Becky’s world revolved around her two daughters.

She was involved in their band and choir concerts. She supported them in their 4-H projects, horse shows, rodeo queen contests and their college educations. Becky was a very family oriented person and many memories were spent over the years with her family along with her sister’s family as they celebrated holidays, events and family vacations together.

As Becky’s daughters grew up and had families of their own, she enjoyed spending her time with their families and her grandchildren for holidays, BBQs, baseball games and family time.

Becky served not only her immediate family but her Mariposa family in many ways. She was involved in the Evergreen 4-H Club, The Mariposa Mountain Riders, director of the Mariposa Wagon Train and member of the Junior Livestock Auction Committee as the photographer. Becky was also member of the Merced Horseman’s Association and a member of Grace Community Church, where she was involved with women’s Bible studies, Awana and Youth Group. She supported numerous local youth through missions, Mariposa County High School Grizzly Band, rodeo royalty (Mariposa Fair/Chowchilla Western Stampede), Mariposa Junior Livestock auctions and horse shows.

Becky is survived by her two daughters, Tawni ( Josh) Prien and Lindsey (Brad) Van Pelt; her husband, Tim; three grandchildren, Harper, Hailey and Houston; her mother and step-father, Ann and Dan Manucci; sister, Candi (Dan) Grinder; two brothers, Dick (Cindy) Huber and Bobbie Huber; and her father, Bob Huber and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held for Becky at Grace Community Church on Saturday, April, 22 beginning at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations to be made to either Mariposa Friends of the Fairgrounds or Grace Community Church in her name/honor.
