Opal Chaney

Opal Jane (Gray) Chaney entered heaven on Jan. 20, 2017. She was 95 years old.

Opal was born in Parsons, Kan., on July 31, 1921, and lived there until she was 16 years old when she graduated from high school and followed her family to southern California. It was there she met the love of her life, Elvyn Chaney. They married before her 18th birthday and enjoyed almost 59 years together before Elvyn passed in 1998.

Together they produced four children who were the great delight and pleasure of her life: Arleen ( John) McCombs, Cheryl (Ben) Bright, Arnold (Barbara) Chaney and Craig (Darlene) Chaney.

She had 14 beloved grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and six great great-grandchildren. Opal outlived her five siblings. Other than raising her children and caring for her disabled husband, Opal enjoyed work in clothing sales and as a personnel manager. Opal lived in the foothills of Madera and Mariposa counties for the past 30 years. She lived well the admonition to do unto others as you would have them do unto you. She was a woman without guile and will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

There will be a celebration of life on Feb. 4, 2017, at 2 p.m., at Coarsegold Community Bible Church, Coarsegold.
