Roy Roberts

Roy was born Aug. 27, 1921, in Cantril, Iowa to Roy and Lottie McElroy Roberts. He passed away at his home in Merced, Calif., with family at his side on Jan. 1, 2017.

Roy was preceded by his parents; sister, Lucille; brothers, Bryant and Ernest; son-in-law Tom Griffin; grandson-in-law, Martin Counts; and great grandson Tyler Malcolm.

He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Mary Jane; his children, Larry of Grand Junction, Colo., Russ of Merced, Judy Griffin of Midpines, Calif. and Jack ( Jacque) of Bailey, Colo.; brother, Bill (Mary) of Burlington, Iowa; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Roy was a World War II veteran serving in England, France and Belgium. In 1952 he moved the family from Iowa to California, where he worked for Douglas Aircraft.

In 1963 Roy and family moved to Midpines where he worked for Mariposa County Roads and Yosemite National Park before joining Caltrans. He retired in 1983.

In 2006 Roy and Mary Jane moved from Midpines to their present home in Merced. At Roy’s request there will be no funeral. There will be graveside services at 1 p.m. on Jan. 13, 2017, at the San Joaquin National Cemetery, Santa Nella, Calif.
