Coarsegold man dies in tree-related accident

A logging accident killed an area man on Thursday, Dec. 1.

Nash Mayer, 40, of Coarsegold, was killed as the result of the tree falling during felling operations, according to the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office.

Mayer was working for Arbor Works, a company doing work in the Greeley Hill area, off of Sugar Pine Drive, focused on the tree mortality response. 

Mayer was killed around noon on Thursday. The Mariposa County Sheriff's Office was dispatched and CAL FIRE responded to the scene as well. Search and rescue personnel also arrived to help retrieve the body.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
