Linda Linn

Linda Irene Linn went to her eternal home on Nov. 5, 2016.

Linda was born in Santa Monica to parents Bill and Peggy Athey. She graduated from Pepperdine University where she was actively involved in intramural sports, baseball stats and musical productions. Linda went on to teach school in the old one room El Portal schoolhouse.

She was very fond of her students and often told stories of starting the old woodstove on those early winter mornings.

She met and married Rodger Keith Lind, also from Santa Monica, who had relocated to Mariposa to enter into the cattle ranching business. Together they lived in the ranch house on Whitlock where they raised their three children, Mark, Kristi and Keri. She never missed a sporting or chorale event and was highly supportive of her children’s interests. Rodger and Linda believed in opening up their home to whoever was in need, as well as to five foster children.

A few years after the death of her husband Rodger, Linda married Chris Linn on Dec. 21, 1993. She opened her arms wide to Chris’s children, Eyan and Michelle Linn, Rory and Sara Linn, Lupe and Bonnie Perea.

Linda was quite the baker and made wedding cakes for many of the local residents of Mariposa. She had a special gift for growing all types of beautiful flowers and created a haven of beauty in her home. She was a wonderful cook, and effortlessly created lovely dinners on a regular basis. Linda was devoted to the Lord and helped start a church in Midpines that she served as a long term Sunday School teacher. Most of her students called her, “Auntie Linda,” a name that stuck and is still used by many of her now grown students today. She loved music, played the piano, and sang special music at church services, funerals and weddings.

She is survived by her sister Jeanne Johnson; her children, Mark, Kristi and Keri; grandchildren Eliudi Spurlin and his wife DeeDee, Olivia Lee and her husband Troy, Aubrey Spurlin, Isabella Spurlin; and her great-granddaughter, Adelae Spurlin. On Chris Linn’s side she is survived by Bryce, Abby, Elijah, Kendall, Chelsea Linn , Lucy, Ezra, Kirby Linn, Dylan and Devan Perea.

She prayed tirelessly for her family and those she loved, and though her health had been failing for many years, she continued to reach out to the many people she cared so much for. Linda Linn was a beautiful flower in this community and her sweet, loving, nature will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at New Life Christian Fellowship on Nov. 19 at 11 a.m. There will be a potluck gathering afterwards at her original home at 5826 W. Whitlock where many have wonderful memories of being loved. Please bring your sweet memories and favorite dish to share.
