Nadine Compton

Nadine Evelyn Compton passed away peacefully at her home on Oct. 13, 2016, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Bonham, Texas, to Thomas and Lela Hall on Aug. 30, 1923. She was 93 years young.

Nadine met and married Garland Compton. They had two daughters, Carla and Gayle. In 1946, the family moved to Coulterville, Calif., where they raised turkeys for a number of years.

Soon after they were married and moved away from home, Nadine went to Modesto Beauty College and became a hairdresser. After graduation from beauty school, she opened “Nadine’s Beauty Shop” at her home in Coulterville, which she operated for the past 55 years.

Nadine was an avid golfer and golfed into her 90s. Her favorite pasttime was watching sports on the “boob tube,” as she would say. She was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Coulterville.

Nadine is survived by her daughters, Carla Meyer; granddaughters, Tracy and Andy Jay, Garnet Turner, Julie and Ken Baxley and Deanna and Scott Williams; 10 great-grandchildren, Channing, Hannah and Meyer Jay, Katie and Tanner Turner, Steven, George and Ryan Baxley, and Hailey (Williams) Musick and Brady Williams; eight great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Garland Compton; her daughter, Gayle Compton; grandson, Troy Anderson; and 12 brothers and sisters.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home of Sonora is handling the arrangements.

A celebration of Nadine’s life will be held sometime after the first of the year.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Mountain Springs Weekenders, P.O. Box 4470, Sonora, CA 95370 or Ladies Auxiliary, P.O. Box 453, Coulterville, CA 95311.
