Eddie met Betty Meyer from Cathey’s Valley during a team roping event in Chowchilla, Calif.

They were married Dec. 24, 1956, at the Old Chapel in Yosemite.

Eddie worked for his father-in-law, Horace Meyer, on his cattle ranch until 1960. After working for the U.S. government as a packer and farrier in Yosemite and several ranches, he returned to the Meyer Cattle Ranch in 1965.

In February 1971, Eddie was appointed as Constable of Mariposa County. As constable he assisted the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office with all phases of law enforcement. He was elected to three, six-year terms as Mariposa County Constable and retired in December 1990.

Throughout his life, Eddie played men’s softball, helped coach little league baseball and football. He competed in local roping events as well as California Professional Rodeo Association competitions.

After retiring in 1990, he traded his horse and saddle for a fishing pole.

Eddie is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Marguerite, sister, Helen Eller, and son, Mike.

Eddie is survived by his wife of 59 years; Betty, his children, Tim ( Jill), and Janet ( Joel); grandchildren Logan, Morgan, Kelsey, Jake, Rylee, Amanda, Jennifer and Melissa; 12 greatgrandchildren and one on the way. He is also survived by his sister Mary Jane Perkins of Portland, Ore.

In 2006, Eddie suffered an accident that left him paralyzed. Eddie greatly appreciated visitors and the wonderful caregivers that helped Betty and family.

There will be no funeral services. Eddie simply wanted friends and family to enjoy the memories and life’s many adventures.
