John R. Woolson

John Robert “Bob” Woolson, 85, of Mariposa, Calif., died on Sept. 4, 2016 in Ventura, Calif. after a short illness.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church, in Ojai, Calif. His final resting place will be in the columbarium of Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church in Van Nuys, Calif., alongside his wife of 59 years, Margaret Woolson, who preceded him in death in 2013.

John was born Sept. 13, 1930 in Colorado Springs, Colo. to Ralph and Rosa (Mitchell) Woolson. He joined the Navy in 1947 and was honorably discharged in 1951. John met Margaret “Mickey” Sewell and the couple married in 1953 and settled in the San Fernando Valley. John worked for Los Angeles Department of Water and Power for 30 years and retired in 1986.

He was an active leader in the Boys Scouts of America earning numerous awards and recognition for his years of service. Both of his sons earned the rank of Eagle Scout and John continued to actively support the Boys Scouts well into his retirement. Upon his retirement in 1986, John and his wife moved to Mariposa. where John worked for Yosemite National Park for 10 years and became active in Saint Andrew’s Church in Mariposa. He was a man of few words, an outdoorsman and dog lover. He also took pride in restoring his 1967 Mustang Fastback.

John is survived by his children, Cory Woolson and his wife Jenny of Salt Lake City, Utah, Robin Abrams and her husband Paul of Castaic, Calif., and Paul Woolson and his wife Holly of Ojai, Calif.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
