Old Fire is now 25 percent contained

A fire burning in remote part of Mariposa County is 25 percent contained.

According to the United States Forest Service, the Old Fire started Tuesday afternoon and is located on Old Yosemite Road in the Groveland District. That is in the Stanislaus National Forest.

As of Wednesday morning, the fire had burned about 100 acres, according to the Forest Service.

The fire is burning through brushy vegetation and individual trees that are dead from the beetle kill.

Crews worked through Tuesday night in a containment effort. There are 150 personnel working the fire, the cause of which is under investigation.

There are five structures threatened by the fire because of proximity to the fire’s edge but officials said the fire is currently burning away from the structures.

Forest Service officials said there are no road closures or evacuations at this time.

The fire information line is (209) 272-5455.

Social media posts indicated smoke was visible on Tuesday from the Greeley Hill area. The fire is located about eight miles east of Greeley Hill.
