Dr. Duncan Laing

Dr. Duncan Thomas Laing, son of Dr. Donald Reid Laing and Patricia Seaver (Thomas) Laing, was born on May 30, 1945 in Pasadena, Calif. He passed away June 4, 2016 in Mariposa, Calif. at the age of 71.

Dr. Laing grew up in San Marino, Calif. and attended San Marino High School. He later continued his education at La Verne University receiving his Bachelor’s, Masters, and Doctorate Degrees in psychology.

Duncan also served in the U.S Army.

Duncan was an avid rock climber whose love of the sport led him to accomplish climbing feats across the Sierras.

Duncan also had a great passion for helping others, especially helping his fellow veterans. For all of his accomplishments, Duncan found his greatest pleasure in his relationship with both God and his family.

Duncan was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

With his sense of humor, kind heart, and listening ear, Duncan will be deeply missed.

Duncan was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Donald and Patricia Laing; his sister, Lorna Laing; and his nephew, Devin Laing.

He is survived by two children and 10 grandchildren; his daughter, Cathleen Gibson and her husband Jonathan of Agra, Kan., and their children Christian, Jillian, Jocelyn, Canyon, Hallie, Danton, Sarah and Elsa; his son, Joe Laing and his wife, Vicky of La Palma, Calif., and their children Kenzie and Kincaid.

Duncan is also survived by his brother, Graeme Laing and his wife Bonnie; his nephew, Derek Laing and his wife Penny and their children Sarah, Lily and Henry; his niece Carol Moeh, and her husband Steve and their children Leah and Phoebe; all of Anacortes, Wash.

There will be memorial service held at the Mariposa Cemetery Outdoor Chapel and Shelter at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2016.
