Air alert issued

Friday, Sept. 11, 2015 - 10:52 a.m. - The Mariposa County Air Pollution Control District, along with the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District, have issued an air quality alert due to smoke impacts.

The alert is active through Friday night.
Mariposa County is being hit with smoke from fires burning in both the north and the south.

The Butte Fire in Calaveras and Amador counties exploded Thursday night to almost 32,000 acres and the Rough Fire in eastern Fresno County, which has scorched almost 98,000 acres, is still blazing.

Dr. Robert Ryder, Mariposa County Health Officer, said people with respiratory or cardiac problems should stay inside as much as possible. He added that even people who are healthy should avoid breathing the smoky air.
